Actor profile
Career and selected work
Karl Collins is a British actor with a long television career and a range of film appearances. The Bill and Hollyoaks offer extended roles as Danny Glaze and Louis Loveday. Doctor Who viewers may recognise Shaun Temple, while Attack the Block and Twenty Four Seven supply film starting points. His Black Mirror appearance is in The Entire History of You.
The mix matters: a character developed across many episodes is experienced differently from someone introduced within a single mystery or self-contained drama. In a serial, familiarity accumulates over time. In Magpie Murders, the viewer must distinguish two roles while also keeping track of a complicated investigation. For a useful comparison, try an individual film alongside one of Collins’s television appearances. Notice how quickly the story establishes the character’s relationships, and whether the audience is asked to trust him before learning much about him. Those questions can make a rewatch more rewarding without revealing a solution.

In the Susan Ryeland adaptations
Collins plays Jack White in Susan’s contemporary world and Jack Whiteley in Conway’s manuscript. The similar names make the connection easy to remember, but each man belongs to his own set of relationships. Treat the casting as a visual cross-reference rather than a shortcut through the mystery. On a first watch, write down the surname as well as the first name: that small distinction helps separate modern testimony from an event in the fictional village. Later, compare the details Conway retains and the ones his novel changes.
