Writing beyond the novels
Horowitz’s screen career began before his best-known novels. His television work includes original series, adaptations and long-running mystery drama; that practical knowledge of episode structure is visible in the nested construction of the Susan Ryeland books.
Core sources: Anthony Horowitz’s official website, publisher catalogues and published bibliographic records. Last reviewed 20 September 2026. Bibliographic variants will be reconciled against the official catalogue as it changes.
Life and work
From North London reader to novelist and screenwriter
Anthony Horowitz was born in North London in 1955. In his own account of his family, he describes a book-filled but emotionally distant home and the influence of his father’s love of Dickens and Trollope. He attended Rugby School and studied English literature at the University of York before building a career that moved between children’s fiction, television and adult crime.
The biographical summary separates the author’s own recollection from standard publisher records; it does not speculate about private family life.
